FED: ANZ bank workers take action over pay
ANZ banks in three states have been hit by industrial action over working conditions and pay.
Hundreds of ANZ workers in Perth and Melbourne attended two-hour stopwork meetings
this morning, while Sydney ANZ staff are staging a 24-hour strike.
Finance Sector Union national secretary TONY BECK says the action is part of a nationwide
campaign aimed at the ANZ, Westpac and National Australia banks in response to increasing
workload pressures.
Mr BECK says members have directed the union to escalate the campaign if the banks
don't make an acceptable offer.
The union says ANZ customers will suffer major delays with telephone banking, credit
cards and mortgage operations as a result of today's industrial action.
ANZ spokesman PAUL EDWARDS says the bank is expecting few disruptions today.
