Council prepares for public spending cuts.

Next week, new chancellor George Osborne will set out details of Au6 billion of cuts in public spending, ahead of an Emergency Budget on June 22.

Jane Storey, Suffolk County Council portfolio holder for resource management and transformation, said the council had been preparing for this situation.

She said: "We knew that whichever party won, we were going to have to cut our budgets by 25-30 per cent."

Cllr Storey said the council had been considering ways of doing things differently, including talking to other councils and agencies about sharing resources, such as West Suffolk House, which is shared by the county and St Edmundsbury Borough …
